HOW TO PICK A DOMAIN NAME
- Always go for a .com whenever possible as they carry higher memory retention and more marketing value
- With some search engines, country indices eg .ca are automatically placed only in the directory for that country, eg Alta Vista
- Get a keyword or two in the url as many search engines including Google spider them
- Do not use underscore (_) in the url use a dash (-) instead if you must use a word separator. Google will index the words separated by the dash as two distinct keywords. The underscores look like a character to Google and not many people are searching with underscores in their keyword phrase string
- For the same reason as above do not use &, $, %, *, # or other non-letter keystrokes in your domain url
- Keep them short - sure you can find some great keyword strings but it won't give you that big of a bump and the users won't want to type it in from any print collateral advertising. They certainly won't remember it either.
